Paul Fraser is a composer, electronic musician, multi-instrumentalist, and curator based out of the Los Angeles area. He has written for orchestra, wind orchestra, choir, chamber ensembles, electronic music groups (both pop and experimental), dance, and film/animation. His music has been heavily influenced by modern pop genres and the rhythmic complexity of post-minimalism. At the same time, his musical style is often programmatic, nostalgic, and focused on timbre experimentation. More recently, he has been influenced by music that is electronically generated and yet organic and human—electronic music that does not draw too much attention to its digital nature.

Fraser’s music has been performed throughout the Midwest as well as in California, New York, and Scotland, by new music groups which include the S.E.M. Ensemble (New York City), the New Century Players (Los Angeles), and the Sapphire Chamber Consort (Minneapolis). In addition, his music was recently featured at the New York City Electroacoustic Festival, the S.E.M. Ensemble Workshop, the Midwest Graduate Music Consortium (Chicago), Nobel Conference (Minnesota), and the St. Magnus Festival (Scotland).

Fraser received his Bachelor of Arts from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2005, majoring in music and computer science and subsequently studied electronic music at the University of Minnesota. He is currently pursuing an MFA in Composition at the California Institute of the Arts, studying with Michael Pisaro and Anne LeBaron. In April, he curated the 2-HEADED BEAST, a new music concert series at the California Institute of the Arts.
